Some FAQs about asking for help

Firstly, know you're not alone. There are many reasons you might be feeling stuck, or not having any control about the way things are going. Here are just a few of things that you may be asking.

How do I know if I should talk to a mate about how I'm feeling?

Talk to someone you trust... be honest and reach out mental unwillingness is often unseen but once its shared is often lessened...Say something like "Hey I'm really struggling at the moment, got time for a chat?"

How do I know if what I'm experiencing is depression?

Many times you won't, but by reaching out and getting help and support from the right people the cause of your concerns can be addressed.

How do I find someone to talk to anonymously?

How do I know when to talk to someone?

Nine times out of ten your gut will tell you. You may be feeling angry, helpless or feel like staying away from the people you usually enjoy spending time with. If you're reading this, then you will already be looking for someone who understands. If in doubt, just talk!

Is talking to a professional health advocate expensive?

Many GPs offer free services for you to talk to. We also have a list of resources where you can find help. Ringing or texting the listed services in the FAQ "How do I find someone to talk to anonymously?" offer free advice services, so go on, give them a call.

What types of help are there for someone who just needs a chat?

There are many services in your community (see FAQ above), but the best thing you can do is talk to a mate, or someone in your community that knows what it the pressures are like in your region. We guarantee they know what it's like and got through the tough times, or are getting through them, by talking to someone local as well. You're not alone, you just need to reach out, lean on a gate and talk to a mate.
